Oil Change in Iowa Falls, IA at Dale Howard Auto Center

Getting an oil change is one of the easiest ways to maintain your car. Ignoring routine oil changes can lead to more costly repairs in the future. Get your oil changed fast at Dale Howard Auto Center.

Why an Oil Change is Important

Oil lubricates your car’s engine and all its parts so that when your car is running, these parts don’t cause friction and overheat your vehicle. Oil also helps trap dirt and debris, keeping it out of your engine and helping your car run smoother.

If you don’t get routine oil changes, the oil can dry up, leaving your engine exposed to dirt, debris, and over-exertion. If your engine is overworking, your car can overheat and you’ll have less fuel efficiency.

Routine oil changes ensure your engine is properly lubricated and running smooth, and they help save you money in the long run by increasing fuel efficiency and avoiding larger and more costly engine troubles.

When You Should Get an Oil Change

You should get your oil changed every 3,000 miles or every 3 months, whichever interval comes first. But different factors can influence this, such as the make and model of your car and how often you drive. Some vehicles only require an oil change every 6 months.

If something is wrong with your oil or it’s been too long since your last oil change, you may notice warning signs such as knocking sounds coming from your engine, oil leaks, overheating, and warning lights on the dashboard.

If you open up the hood and check your oil and it’s black or sludge-like, then it’s time to change it.

The Oil Change Process

Step 1

Our expert service technicians will get underneath your car, remove the drain plug, and let the oil drain into a receptacle for at least five minutes.

Step 2

Next, they’ll remove the oil filter and let any old oil drain from it as well. They’ll also remove the old oil filter gasket.

Step 3

Next, they’ll replace the old oil filter and gasket with a new one, ensuring a tight fit.

Step 4

Next, they’ll replace and tighten the drain plug, lower the car, open the hood, and pour new oil.

Step 5

Lastly, they’ll start the car and let it sit idle for a few minutes to test for any leaks or other issues before handing your keys back to you.

Cost of an Oil Change

The cost of an oil change will depend on what kind of oil your car needs–synthetic, synthetic blend, or conventional. The price generally ranges from $35 to $125.

Caring for Your Vehicle After an Oil Change

After an oil change, keep in mind the next date of service; the technician will usually place this on a sticker that goes on your windshield. Check your oil monthly with a dipstick to assess the level and quality.
